What a week of approvals taught us

We read 4,800 approvals from one week in September. Here's when people say yes, when they say no, and what crewmates learn from both.

Gouache painting of a small harbour on a calm morning: a crew in coral, blue, green and lilac jackets readies a two-masted sailing ship at a stone quay while a crane lifts a cargo net.

Every approval in Crewmate is a small decision with a timestamp, a reason and an outcome. One week in September gave us 4,780 of them, from 2,412 crews.

Most answers are yes

93 % of approvals were accepted as they were. Another 5 % were edited first, usually a sentence in an email or an amount in a refund. Only 2 % were declined.

Declines cluster in two places: emails to customers who are already upset, and changes to anything a person touched in the last hour. Crewmates now flag both before they ask.

Speed comes from context

The median time to approve was 8 seconds. The slowest approvals were the ones with the least context, so every request now shows the source it read, the change it plans and the last time someone did the same thing.
