Our close used to take four days, and two of them were matching bank lines to invoices by hand. June does that overnight now: 214 lines a day, matched and explained.
What June does
June pulls the bank feed, matches every line it can, and writes one sentence for each line it can’t. On a normal day that leaves me four or five lines to look at, each with a guess about what happened.
Refunds and write-offs wait for me. A handful of approvals a week is my whole involvement in the part of the close that used to take two days.
What I still do
I read the shift report every Friday and sign it. I decide what we do about the odd lines. And I spend the two days we got back on the forecast, which is the part of my job I actually like.
